What a boiler service covers
Most people do not need this much detail, and that is fine. It is here for anyone who wants to know exactly what they are paying for. Dust sheets go down if they are needed, and everything is cleared up afterwards.
The ten checks on a gas service
- A look over the whole installation: where the appliance sits, flue clearances and the condition of the flue.
- Your meter checked for compliance and tightness.
- The casing off for a full internal inspection, electrical safety checked first.
- The condensate trap inspected, cleaned and replaced.
- Gas inlet working pressure measured.
- Meter inlet working pressure measured.
- The flame picture checked.
- Flue-gas analysis, with the CO2 adjusted at minimum and maximum rate if it needs it.
- Gas rate checked.
- Your CO detector checked, if you have one fitted.
You get a written report at the end with any advisories on it.
On an oil service, additionally
- The tank checked for condition and compliance, and the tank filters changed.
- A new nozzle fitted, electrodes checked and the blast tube cleaned.
- The heat exchanger and baffles cleaned out.
How long it takes
A gas service takes 45 minutes to an hour. Oil takes an hour to an hour and a half, because there is more to clean.
What it costs
£85 for a gas service, £100 for oil.
